Steps to Finding Inner Peace with Mindfulness Meditation

One of the challenges to blissful living is finding inner peace. Every day, you will find yourself facing stressful situations that gather within our mind. There may come a time when these stressors will begin to overwhelm and weaken the will. Your mind must be strong enough to withstand the onslaught of distressing thoughts and situations.

You can turn to beneficial activities such as regular exercise and workouts, but if you are primarily looking for inner peace, the best approach is mindfulness meditation. Here are steps you can take to achieve and obtain inner peace through meditation

A Peaceful Place

If you are a beginner in meditation, you need to train yourself first and be familiar with the methods. You can do this by practising and finding your comfort zone. It is important for you to find a quiet place where you will not encounter distractions for a few minutes when you meditate. This will provide a strong foundation in your meditation training exercise.

Find a Comfortable Position

There are different positions that you can try when meditating. Instructional books and guides can give you sitting positions that you can use, but you must keep in mind that it is important for you to be comfortable in your meditation position. You can meditate while sitting down, while standing, walking or even lying down on your bed. For most people, the best position is the sitting position as this will keep them from feeling sleepy.

The position of your hands is also essential. You can place your hands in front of you, with palms facing upward. Keep them gently placed on your lap and relax.

Focus on Breathing

The main activity of meditation is the breathing. Focus and feel your body inhaling and exhaling. As you breathe in and breathe out, concentrate on the part between your lips and nose. This activity sounds simple, but it is not. It is during this time, that your mind can wander off. If you are someone who tends to over-think things, your thoughts are sure to wander from thought to thought.

It can be a challenge to calm your thoughts as they race through. Whenever this happens, just accept the thoughts and bring yourself back to focus on your breathing.

Don’t Overdo It

For meditation to be a pleasant experience for you as a beginner, avoid overdoing it. It will be enough to practise it for only a few minutes, until the time you feel you need to do it longer. You can practise meditation for a few short minutes and do it several times a day. Be patient with yourself as you learn to improve your focus.
